Healthcare Speaker Series: End Of Life Preparation
Details
Join us for a meaningful and practical program dedicated to dignity, preparedness, and Jewish values as we explore the essentials of end-of-life planning. This seminar will provide you with the necessary legal, financial, and spiritual tools to navigate these important life stages for yourself and your loved ones.
Program Highlights
- Legal & Financial Essentials: Gain clarity on the practical steps of planning. An estate attorney will lead a session covering wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance directives (healthcare proxies). Learn key estate planning tips and participate in a dedicated Q&A session.
- Jewish Perspectives on Death & Dying: Explore the heart of Jewish tradition in end-of-life care. This session will discuss Halachic (Jewish legal) views, the role of hospice and palliative care, and an overview of ethical dilemmas (prolonging life vs. easing suffering).
- Burial, Mourning & Custom: Understand the practical and spiritual customs surrounding a Jewish funeral and burial. We'll cover choosing a cemetery, working with a funeral home, the role of the Chevra Kadisha (burial society), and considerations for cremation and organ donation. You'll also receive a practical checklist for funeral arrangements and learn "How to have a hard conversation with your family."
- Legacy & Memory: Reflect on how you want to be remembered. This session focuses on the spiritual and personal aspects of planning, including writing ethical wills and legacy letters, planning for yahrzeit and memorials, and charitable giving. The day will conclude with a reflection and a reading of the poem "The Dash."
