Honoring our legacy.

We are deeply proud of our history in Albany and as trailblazers of American Judaism. Click the facts below for an intro, then take a deeper dive.

One of the First

Established in 1838, we're the 4th oldest Reform congregation in the nation and the first Jewish community in upstate New York.

Pioneer in Reform Jewish Practice

We're the first congregation to welcome women in our choir, allow mixed-gender seating, and live broadcast a Jewish service.

Rich Rabbinic Lineage

Isaac Mayer Wise - considered the founder of Reform Judaism - began his groundbreaking career as our first Rabbi.

Member Stories

I’ve always said that Beth Emeth is our Jewish home away from home. When we walk into temple, we are in community; it’s always been that way.

I knew from my first visit that Beth Emeth was a special place. I began my conversion journey here and have since fallen in love with its sense of community, the music, services and desire to help those in need.
- Taylor Alfred
Beth Emeth is an incredibly welcoming community where my LGBTQ identity is respected and celebrated. Marching in Pride with Cantor Short and fellow members was an amazing experience!
- Sophie Panzer
Beth Emeth helped me find my Jewish identity, a nurturing community for both the most challenging and most joyful times, and a truly spiritual home for my family.
