Brotherhood Torah Schmooze
Details
Each month, we will gather for a relaxed and meaningful “Torah Schmooze” — a chance to connect over coffee, camaraderie, and conversation rooted in Jewish wisdom. Whether you’re a seasoned scholar or just Torah-curious, come share insights, ask questions, and enjoy the spirit of brotherhood. No preparation needed, just bring your curiosity and a good sense of humor!
This month we will be exploring the following:
Writing in the Talmud circa 1800 years ago, Rav Yehuda said in the name of Rav ( Sotah 2-8) “Forty days before a fetus is formed, a voice rings out in heaven and announces: ‘The daughter of so-and-so will marry the son of so-and-so, a certain house will belong to the son of so-and-so and a certain field will also belong to him.’”
Is everything that occurs during a person’s life (including its length) predetermined before they are born? What about the concepts of free will and freedom of choice? Where does prayer fit in?
