CBE President: Renewing Our Sacred Bonds

This article first appeared in our July/Aug '25 edition of The Bulletin
“If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?”
- Hillel, Pirkei Avot 1:14
As I sit down to write my first Bulletin article as president of Congregation Beth Emeth, I’m filled with a deep sense of gratitude and purpose. This sacred community has been part of my life for as long as I can remember - truly, it has helped shape who I am.
I grew up here. From my earliest days in Religious School through Confirmation, to my time as a songleader in CBEYG and throughout our region, Beth Emeth has always been a second home. I had the privilege of teaching music in our Religious School and was honored to help create the High Holy Days children’s program - something that continues to nurture and inspire our youngest members today.
My husband Ted and I raised our children here, surrounded by a loving and supportive community. Now, as I step into this new role, I do so with a full heart, eager to give back to the place that has given me so much.
Our congregation is a vibrant tapestry woven with history, tradition, innovation, and warmth. As we look ahead together, I hope to continue strengthening the bonds between us, listening with intention, and ensuring Beth Emeth remains a spiritual home for generations to come.
Looking ahead, these are some of the things we are working on:
Deepening Engagement: We want every member - from those with lifelong ties to those newly joining our community - to feel welcomed, valued, and involved. We are creating more opportunities for connection, leadership, and meaningful participation.
Lifelong Learning: Jewish learning continues throughout our lives. We are committed to expanding opportunities for adults, families, and youth, embracing both tradition and innovation as we grow together in knowledge and spirit.
Caring for Our Facilities: Our building reflects our values and supports our shared experiences. We are thoughtfully maintaining and improving our physical space so that it remains safe, welcoming, and functional for all who gather here.
Vision and Mission Statements: We are engaging in a process to clearly articulate our shared purpose and values. These statements will help guide our decisions, our programming, and how we live out our Jewish commitments as a community.
This is sacred work, and it is work we do together. I invite you to share your thoughts, bring your energy, and help us shape the future of our congregation. With partnership, care, and intention, we will continue to build a strong and vibrant Beth Emeth for the generations to come.
L’shalom,
Robin Sobol, CBE President
