CBE Executive Director: From Winter’s Chill to Spring’s Promise

This article first appeared in our Mar/Apr '26 edition of The Bulletin

As I write this, we’ve just experienced a record-breaking snowstorm in what has already been a very snowy winter. It’s bitterly cold outside, and the wind whistles as it rushes around the windows of my office. Winter has made its presence unmistakably known.

And yet - even in the deep chill - signs of spring are already emerging.

The bare branches of the shrubs in my yard are crusted with ice, but at their tips, tiny buds are beginning to appear. They remind me that growth often starts quietly, almost invisibly, even when conditions seem least welcoming. Renewal doesn’t wait for perfect circumstances.

Here, in our CBE offices, we’re feeling that same sense of anticipation. We’ve begun rehearsals for my very first Purim spiel, filling our conference room with laughter, music, and just a bit of joyful chaos. I’m also excited for the Einhorn Center’s Mini-Mitzvah Day, when our students will put Jewish values into action and remind us all that even small acts of kindness and service can make a meaningful difference. At the same time, we’re already looking ahead - toward summer, the highly-anticipated Garage Sale, and the important planning that will help shape the year to come.

This season invites us to hold two truths at once: winter still surrounds us, but spring is on its way. Our community does this beautifully - honoring where we are while preparing for what’s next. Whether through worship, learning, social action, or simply showing up for one another, we continue to plant seeds that will bloom in the months ahead. I’m honored to be a part of that process.

May this transition from winter to spring bring warmth, renewed energy, and moments of joy to you and your family. I look forward to experiencing the season of growth and celebration together.

Jill Rafferty-Weinisch, Executive Director
